First impression lasts, as they say, but last impression is what leaves a mark on people. It is just like in working for a company, your initial performance needs to be good for you to gain trust and respect from your colleagues and superiors. But through the time of your employment, that first impression changes as you change you work behavior as well as the way you interact with the people around. Though it is always everybody's wish to land the dream job it is not always that easy to achieve. So when it is time to leave a post and transfer to another company or shift career, it is always good to know how to write a good resignation letter.

Composing a Good Resignation Letter

A good resignation should be short yet straight to the point. Your reason for leaving your job should be explained in one sentence if possible. Long explanation will tend to look like you are trying to make excuses, and that will not look good on you.

You should also be specific about the time you intend to leave, you should not leave any doubt that you are just trying to actually ask for raise that is why you are resigning. If that is your reason, then do not write a resignation letter, ask for a meeting with your superior and declare your request. It is always better to be open and upfront that to go around the bush.

Resignation letters are created for the simple purpose of resigning; it should not be used as a way to gain something from your job.

Components of aProfessional Resignation Letter

Resignation letter is your formal announcement your intention to leave your company and it has many components.

At the left side margin, type the date, under it goes the name and the position of the recipient, next will be the address of the company.

Then it should be followed by a formal salutation, and the body of the letter. The first part of the body should consist of the exact date you intend to report at work. The date should be specified as this will announce the finality of your decision. It is customary for a t least a month's notice; just to be formal give that much time allowance. Do not be surprised if you will be asked to leave either sooner or later, depending on the circumstances of your leaving.

The reason for resignation should be the next part of your letter. Keep it brief; you will have the chance to explain verbally if they ask you for a meeting.

Then express your gratitude for the chance you were given in working with the company. And finally end with a positive note; express best wishes for the company and everyone involved in it. Say goodbye as gracefully as you can.

Indicate you name and your signature at the bottom part of the letter.

Avoid writing about grievances on your resignation letter; simply announce your intention to leave.

You can ask for a meeting with your superior to confirm your resignation; offer the letter as a conclusion to the meeting.
