Actually, there are certain steps you can take that will tilt the odds in your favor. You can deliberately engage in viral marketing, but there are a few things you may want to learn.

Be interesting, and we know this is an absolute no-brainer because if you want to make the most out of viral marketing, you should do stuff that's interesting. Whether it's about creating a simple blog post or a full blown product; the moment your offering looks dull and boring, it moves away from the core idea of viral marketing. What you may want to do is study things that have been known to be viral, and you will learn a thing or two. So you know that if people do not react to what you hope may be viral, then it will not happen.

Viral marketing campaigns that evoke emotions really work, and always remember that people want to get touched. So then you have to think of all the different kinds of powerful emotions and how to evoke them. The reason you have to understand these things is because you are deliberately working to achieve something. So never have any doubts about whether or not this can work or whether or not you can make it work on command.

There is a lot you can do right on your own site such as giving free content away in the form of a download. Not only can you mention the share on your site, but put it in the ebook or video as well. You really need to make people perceive and believe that they are getting real value. So just work on something that you believe may do the trick for you.

You should not shy away from working on viral marketing, but you should do less of it than regular marketing. You really kind of need to have a good understanding of human nature and what makes people respond the way they do.

Remember you never know what will hit with people and will not, and that makes it more fun and frustrating. If and when your viral campaigns falter, as they surely will, then just keep going and do not give up.
