Benzoic acid is acting as an essential base chemical to produce other kinds of chemicals which are organic hydrocarbon

Benzoic acid is an organic acid that is aromatic and also forms a crystalline structure. The salts of the Benzoic acid hydrocarbon preserve food. The benzoic acid is occurring naturally as a free radical and as the ester form in many types of plants & animals. The gum of Benzoin is where the Benzoic acid is being derived from. Apples that are fungus infected are also producing the Benzoic acid hydrocarbon. Benzoic Acid is actually a crucial precursor in synthesizing other types of hydrocarbons. Benzoic acid had been discovered as early as the 1500's. Benzoic acid was first discovered to be able to fight fungus in the year 1875 by Salkowski. Benzoic acid is being produced in a commercial manner by processing toluene through partial oxidation. Benzoic acid is being synthesized to create other chemicals including Benzoyl Chloride. Benzoyl Chloride is an important chemical for producing Benzoic acid derivatives. Benzoic acid and salts are now commonly used for preserving different foods and you can check if there is E210 up to E213 in the label. Many known sauces are using Benzoic acid. Benzoic acid prevents the growth of yeast, bacteria and molds.

Whitfield's ointment contains the Benzoic acid ingredient. Benzoic acid is one of the ingredients listed on many acne treatment lotions. One anti-acne product that is famous is the Benzoyl Peroxide that is also a derivative of Benzoic acid. When the Benzoyl Peroxide touches the skin it reacts and breaks down to H2O2 and Benzoic Acid. Sodium benzoate is a lot more soluble if compared to benzoic acid. Soft drinks has Sodium benzoate ingredient as a preservative that fights off the growth of microbes. Sodium benzoate is a common ingredient for food preservation used today but it's also had its own controversies in the past. Antibacterial property of sodium benzoate helps soft drinks to stay fresh for long periods. Liquid form of vitamin supplements mostly contains the potassium benzoate or sodium benzoate. Some are concerned about the possible reaction of ascorbic acid and benzoic acid & salts concerning about the end product. Benzene could be formed when sodium benzoate reacts with vitamin C or the ascorbic acid that's also found in food. Metabolism of the sodium benzoate is on the liver. Benzoic acid is a much better antimicrobial chemical but sodium benzoate is the most commonly used substance. Air can have an explosive reaction with the vapor of benzoic acid. Don't contact benzoic acid to your skin as this could cause swelling, itching and redness.
