Various Home Remedies For Snoring

Anybody can experience this sleeping disorder. Almost everyone at certain times in their lives get to experience this. Snoring is the sound of vibrating tissues caused by air moving quickly from the throat to the lungs. Though occasional snoring is not that serious and is normal to most of us, habitual snoring may need medical attention.

The air we breathe in is traveling faster than usual when we snore. There are several causes to this but the main reason is a narrowing of the air passageway, it could be due to the base of the tongue resting or the muscles get relaxed. Because of a narrow opening, the air needs to travel faster to get to our lungs. Before seeking any medical attention, there are home remedies that we can apply to stop snoring.

Changing sleeping positions is the most common practice to stop snoring. When we lay on our backs, the base of the tongue rests back thus obstructing the air passageway. What we can do here is to train ourselves to sleep on our sides.

Getting a regular sleep schedule will also help in sleeping with the right posture. If we sleep regularly and get enough rest all of the time and have a definite schedule for bedtime, it would be easier to train our bodies to sleep in a definite position.

Being overweight can also cause snoring. We can start doing exercise and follow a healthy diet program in order to lose those unwanted pounds. Having extra weight causes snoring because of the fats that are on the lining of the throat.

Consumption of alcoholic beverages or high calorie foods before bedtime also causes snoring. A good practice is to drink two cups of tea instead before going to bed.

Snoring should not be taken for granted because of possible health risks associated with it. Sleep apnea for example is a dangerous medical condition because it can cause morning sleepiness and lack of oxygen supply. Serious lung conditions can also cause snoring that is why it should not be set aside. And lack of oxygen can overwork the heart because it needs to pump harder in order to supply the body with sufficient oxygen.

A lot of snoring aids are available in the market nowadays. The most popular snoring remedies are snoring chin straps and snoring pillows.
